Sue Carter, Program and Spiritual Director

I am a Certified Spiritual Director dedicated to accompanying individuals as they explore and deepen their spiritual lives. My ministry includes serving the Women’s Christ Renews His Parish program, where I have guided more than twenty retreat teams. In 2002, I founded Seeds of Faith, a weekly prayer and reflection group that continues to nurture spiritual growth and community. I am also trained as a Boundless Compassion Facilitator through Joyce Rupp and have led numerous retreats with retreat centers, churches, and community organizations. In addition, I serve on a Grief and Caregivers support team, offering presence and support to those experiencing loss and life transitions. My work is grounded in fostering connection, cultivating compassion, and helping others encounter the sacred in everyday life.

I am a Sister of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception and have served as a Spiritual Director for more than twenty years. I am deeply committed to accompanying others as they listen for God’s presence and movement in their lives. My ministry has included service at the Newman Center at the University of Illinois and within the Diocese of Peoria, experiences that have shaped my pastoral heart. Those who journey with me often describe my approach as compassionate, attentive, and grounded in Franciscan spirituality. At this time, I offer spiritual direction remotely, providing a space for prayerful reflection and sacred listening.

Mary Barbara Hassler, OSF

I am a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, formed by a deep love for prayer and spiritual companionship. I received my spiritual direction training at the Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat Center in Barrington, Illinois, and hold a degree in Spirituality from Loyola University Chicago. My Franciscan heart is continually renewed through time spent in nature and quiet reflection. I find great joy in accompanying others as they deepen their awareness of God’s presence in their lives.

Norma Janssen, OSF

I am a Franciscan Sister of the Sacred Heart and serve as Director of the Poverello Holistic Center, where I minister as a spiritual director. My greatest joy is accompanying individuals on their life journeys and encouraging them toward a fuller, Spirit-led life. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of walking with others as they discern God’s presence and movement in their lives. I also serve on the leadership team of my religious congregation, a role that continues to shape and deepen my vocation.

Spiritual Direction is $55.00 per session or $40.00 per session for anyone on retreat at The Port
