Our Vision

The Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart are religious women consecrated to Christ and the Church through the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Impassioned by the Gospel and the Rule of St. Francis of Assisi, we balance in our lives the essential elements of prayer, community and service in a common bondedness.

Our vision statement (2009-2014) inspires our daily living and impels our "works of neighborly love" in the United States and Brazil.

Go, live God's emerging newness!

By being attentive to the Gospel we hope to truly make a difference in our Church and world. We wish to feel a deeper connection (fraternitas) through Jesus to all God’s people as our brothers and sisters with the realization that this connection extends to all creation as it did for St. Francis who called even the sun and moon ‘brother’ and ‘sister’. In each of our unique and creative ways, we can be a powerful witness and influence for a peace that brings vitality and fullness of life. We invite you to browse the pages of our website and to learn more about our lives and our ministries and whether you would like to ...

What was Jesus thinking about as he hung on the cross at Calvary for three hours? The Gospels give us seven clues. He thought about his Father, he thought about his Mother, he thought about his friends, he thought about each one of us. We will reflect on these sacred last words of Jesus, and their meaning for us.

“The Church: The Great Schism and the Reformation”

The Church has gone through great difficulties over these 2000 years: a break between the Western church (Rome) and the Eastern church (Constantinople), two, or even three, Popes at one time, and the division of Christians in Europe during the sixteenth century, to mention a few. How did the Catholic Church prevail, reform, and remain faithful to Jesus Christ?
