We, the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, have celebrated 125 years  in the United States.  There is joy in what we have done and become throughout our graced history.  When we first arrived in 1876, it was  immediately evident that our new neighbors needed us as much as we  needed them!  Throughout these years many answered the call to live our founder’s dream to be “Sisters of mercy…poor but joyous…doing the works of neighborly love.”

Today’s world still longs for this neighborly love despite backyard fences,  large institutions and hectic schedules.  Our mission is to respond to our  neighbors in need: caring for the sick, befriending the orphans, teaching  truths and freeing the spirit.  Our vision is to simply be the gentle hands  and beating heart of Jesus.  Our promise is to be with you, our neighbors, responding to the challenges of our world where people often feel divorced from the earth and each other.

It is our hope to join with all of our brothers and sisters in a cosmic hymn of praise.  It is our joy to honor and celebrate the unique contribution of each of our Sisters through their dedicated lives of service.  We are making a difference!  As we more truly become instruments of peace, we are bringing the world a little closer to God’s dream.  Join us at the dawn of this newness as we follow in the footprints of Jesus.

This is our destiny: for all of creation to live as neighbors in the heart of God.
